History Brief:
The principal settlers were from Guilford and Killingworth and in May 1669 were established as the Plantation of Cockinchaug. In 1704, it was renamed Durham and it was incorporated as the town of Durham in 1708. Town vital records begin 1839. Barbour collection records cover 1708-1852.
